Milesight LoRaWAN® Gateway Online Demo offers more visibility into IoT data practices and increases transparency around your gateway governance and management.
Online DemoLoRaWAN® gateways are essential in a LoRaWAN® network, receiving data from end devices (like sensors and meters) via the LoRaWAN® protocol and forwarding it to network servers (LNS) for processing. The gateway converts the long-range, low-power LoRa radio signals into IP packets. Operating in a star-of-stars topology, it forwards uplink data from devices to the server and downlink data (such as commands or configurations) from the server to the devices. The gateway doesn't process the data itself; it simply relays it (unless it has a network server embedded).
Together, these components form a star topology that ensures secure, efficient communication for IoT applications across diverse environments.
A single LoRaWAN® gateway can typically handle hundreds to thousands of devices, depending on the network environment, frequency plan, the types of devices communicating, etc. Multi-channel gateways, which can receive data on multiple channels simultaneously, can support a significantly larger number of devices compared to single-channel gateways. Milesight LoRaWAN® gateways, such as the UG63, UG65, UG56, UG67, and SG50 can typically handle up to 2000 end devices with a maximum of 8 full-duplex channels.
The number of LoRaWAN® gateways required depends on factors like coverage area, device density, and environmental conditions. In rural areas, a gateway can cover up to 15 km, while urban environments may require more gateways due to obstacles. High device density or frequent transmissions require additional gateways to handle data traffic. Antenna type, network architecture (single vs. multi-channel), and future scalability considerations further influence gateway requirements. Pilot testing and simulations can help optimize gateway placement and ensure reliable network coverage. Efficient planning ensures effective performance without overspending.
Indoor Use Cases include:
For example, the compact and mountable Milesight UG63 Mini LoRaWAN® Gateway is ideal for small-scale deployments in offices. IP65-rated for dust and water resistance, with robust processing power, the UG65 Semi-Industrial LoRaWAN® Gateway is perfect for semi-outdoor or industrial indoor use.
Outdoor Use Cases include:
For example, Milesight UG56 Industrial LoRaWAN® Gateway supports advanced features like Listen Before Talk (LBT) for large-scale deployments. With an IP67 rating, the UG67 Outdoor LoRaWAN® Gateway is designed for harsh outdoor environments and long-range applications.
When selecting a LoRaWAN® gateway, consider the following key factors to ensure it meets your IoT project's requirements:
